How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish

Hiya,

Has this ever happened to you when you try and remove your glittery nail polish?

I'm guessing the answer is yes!  It's a pain right?  Takes forever to remove?  Uses so many cotton wool pads you lose count?  Well, I have seen a lot of people say that they struggle with removing glittery nail polish and I felt their pain... until I saw a tip on Pinterest.  I've just had a look on my boards and I don't seem to have the pin where I saw this tip.  I think I must have been so keen to try it that I just didn't pin... sorry!

Anyway, I have put together my own step by step of the method to help all you other glitter polish lovers out there!

You don't need anything fancy and I would imagine that you already have the stuff at home.
  • Nail polish remover
  • Cotton wool pads
  • Scissors
  • Tin foil
Take your cotton wool and cut it into smaller sections, this way you use less and they are just right for each individual nail.  Soak the cotton wool in some polish remover and then apply to the nail.  When I say soak, it doesn't have to be dripping wet, but you don't want it to be too dry as it won't work.

This is where the tin foil comes in.  Wrap a small strip of tin foil around the nail with the cotton wool and continue around your finger as well.  This keeps the cotton wool pressed nicely to the nail.

Continue wrapping each finger, pressing the cotton wool down onto the nails, until you have done one hand.  I would suggest doing one hand at a time as it can get tricky to try and wrap the fingers on your other hand with one already wrapped up!

Then wait for 10 minutes.  After this time is up press down on the nail and try sliding the cotton wool and foil wrap off the nail.  It should slide away easily taking the glitter polish with it.  If it doesn't slide away easily leave the wraps on a little longer and try again.

As you can see there might still be a few little bits of glitter trying to stick around, but you can remove this much more easily than if you were trying to remove all the glitter from the whole nail.

I have found that this saves so much time, nail scrubbing and cotton wool!

In case you were wondering, the colour that I have on my nails in these photos is Rimmel - Precious Stones Ruby Crush, I reviewed it here if you wanted to take a better look.

I have included a photo step by step below so you can see how I did the whole process.  I hope it helps you out the next time you wear and then want to remove a glitter polish.

    1. I'm glad I've been able to help! Glitters are so pretty but I did used to dread taking them off as it would take so long! This really does cut out all the hard work and sore nails after scrubbing away so hard.
