New Nail Storage and Organisation

Hello all,

I have wanted to sort my polish collection for a while now and having moved fairly recently it seemed like the perfect time to start a project like this.  I got a new storage box for some of my nail things the other week and I have started reorganising my stash.  It's nowhere near finished yet, but it feels good to have made a start at least.

I started off with just one bag for polishes but as my collection grew so did the bags and boxes!  This is what I ended up with before my new storage.

And this is just what fit in the photograph!  I had some other bits in some little drawers along with things like make-up and hair accessories.  I was in serious need of some organisation and thought you might want to see what I have done so far.
I know lots of people get the Helmer drawers from Ikea, but I don't really have the space required for one and wanted to go for something a bit different.

My sister bought me this for Christmas last year but at the moment still doesn't house any nail goodies.  I am still deciding what should go in here.

I have been deliberating about this for a while, but finally went in to Sally's in London and bought myself this medium sized beauty box in pink.  They have lots of different styles and sizes available, but this was perfect for what I wanted.

It's got one large section in the bottom and hinged multi level trays with long thin sections in the middle and small sections on the top level.

Lets start taking a look at how I've begun organising things...

I decided that the bottom of the box was going to be my dedicated Models Own storage area, along with my nail art tools seen in the orange and black box in the top picture.  Models Own is my favourite brand and the one I have the most colours in.  I thought my collection would fill the whole of the box, but as you can see there's still space left - oh no, I'll have to get some more! Ha ha!  As Models Own lids are the same width as the bottle you can't see the colours when they are standing up, so I add a coloured swatch on top which I cut into a little heart shape.  The only ones I don't do this for are those with special lids, like the Hyper Gels, Ice Neons, Mirrorballs and Velvet Goths.

Moving up to the mid section trays

On one side I've got my spare/new nail files, buffing block and nail buffing tool.  Then on the other side I have my bottles of nail polish thinner, Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, and MoYou Stamping Plate and Stamper.  I add a few drops of the polish thinner to bottles of colour that have become a bit thick and gloopy, it really can prolong the life of a bottle of polish.  I got this bottle from Amazon.  The cuticle remover was brought back from America for me, so I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK, but if you do an internet search for it who knows.  This is great to use every now and again to tidy up your cuticles.

Now the top section trays

I've got make-up sponges for ombré nails and cocktails sticks for nail art purposes in one little section, and then in the next one I have toe separators, and the heart shaped paper punch that I use to make my lid swatches that I mentioned earlier.  To do these I paint some of the colour on a sticky address label, wait for it to dry and then punch out the heart shape.

Over to the other side I have nail art beads, glitters, gems, and nail stickers.

I also have my nail tape dispenser

This is an old sellotape dispenser, I just chucked away the plastic ring from the tape and added my nail tapes.  This makes it so easy to get sections of tape when you need them.

All of this minimised the collection of bags in the first picture, so I no longer need the two Models Own ones, and I don't have all the little individual bits in other drawers.  I still have a way to go with sorting, but I am pleased with what I have done so far.  I hope you've enjoyed having a look around at my collection.

Thanks for stopping by
Aimée x
